Happy Solstice + A New Moon

Happy winter solistice! At 1.48pm PT, the Sun ingresses into Capricorn, one of the four cardinal signs.

Western astrology is based on the changing of the seasons, which occurs when the Sun ingresses (moves) into one of the four cardinal signs:

Aries — spring equinox

Cancer — summer solstice

Libra — fall equinox

Capricorn — winter solstice

Just as the changing of the seasons reflects nature's cycles, the cardinal signs reflect back our own phases of life or when we experience inevitable endings and beginnings.

These four signs are known for their ability to initiate change. They also represent the maturation process that results from our ongoing development.

Consider that as we enter Capricorn Season and the calendar New Year, we have both a Mars retrograde (through January 12) and a Mercury retrograde to boot (December 29 – January 18, 2023).

This is a holiday that will likely be accompanied with some amount of fatigue. While we're all excited that there's a metaphorical turning of the page, for most, the energy is still slow, heavy and/or exhaustive.

I've noticed something interesting this Mars Rx: A good number of people are doing double duty on reorganizing.

There isn't a lot of vitality to move forward, but a lot of folks do seem to have found the motivation to clear out old, stagnant energies and clutter.

It's definitely an opportune time to PURGE. It's like a clearinghouse for that which no longer serves, whether it's material objects in your closet and garage or even accumulated psycho-spiritual trash.

All limiting beliefs must go!

And that leads me to the New Moon this Friday, December 23 at 2.16am PT — also in committed Capricorn — and its intersection with the Mars retrograde (Rx).

Because Capricorn represents the archetypes of Time and Organization, when the Sun is in the sign of the Goat, we may become more aware of limitations to our Time and/or the Time and Organization needed to make progress toward a goal.

Often we need to release the old to make way for the new — even if just on an energetic level. Letting go of things from the past makes room for us to expand, whether that's emotionally or in our material lives, too.

And this is where the Goat and Mars are very, very aligned despite being extremely different energies — they both possess a steadfast resolve to win.

Mars may be down for the count right now, but we've officially entered the Goat's territory, and she's the ultimate task master.

If purging and organizing are next on the to-do list, then Mars just hit the jackpot (see the bit on Jupiter in Aries below).

The Goat's surefooted and determined, ensuring you level-up for success.

Under A New Moon in Cap:

Do as much clearing out of the old as you can. Chores are typically viewed as unattractive. But with this much Capricorn energy, there can be a willingness — if not an eagerness — to tackle them.

Don't know where to start? Just ask your body for a clue. It may be as simple as reorganizing one drawer of your dresser or finally sweeping the garage floor.

Right now, you can see the end goal more clearly, which will lend you momentum.

Where can you take the next step? We're all experiencing multiple cycles in life — relationship, professional, health, etc. Though seemingly separate, we know these various aspects of life are intimately intertwined.

Capricorn is a master at determining if the time is ripe for taking the next step. And New Moons are a lovely opportunity for planting seeds and initiating new cycles.

Reflect on your goals. If you haven't yet committed to a goal for 2023, then now's the time to establish one.

And I'm not talking about a cheesy New Year's resolution here. I mean a bona fide desire that you would like to see actualized in your life.

Under the HUGE Capricorn energies, you're more likely than usual to achieve your vision — as long as you're willing to put in the hard work that's required to make it so.

This week's AstroLogical Forecast:

Jupiter ingressed back into Aries yesterday, Tuesday, December 20 at 6.32am PT.

He's going to be moving pretty swiftly through the Ram's sign and will be here only until May 16, 2023. (He already occupied Aries from May 10–October 27, 2022 — you likely felt you were making some headway then.)

Jupiter in Aries brings gusto and fervor to your desires. You'll have more momentum and steam to reach the finish line now.

This is excellent energy to combat the Mars retrograde (Mars is the ruling planet of Aries), which decreases our vital energy and can bring stagnation and frustration.

>> We'll be in the shadow of Mars retrograde through most of March, but Jupiter is sure to buoy our spirits and help build the forward momentum that's been missing these last two months!

This week, we have four planets in Capricorn; five when the Moon is New. Dude, that's a LOT of earth energy!

The Goat makes its way through the material world with authority, integrity and an earthy sensuality (hello Pan) that others are sure to respect, but sometimes fear.

This overachiever of the zodiac is teaching us how to navigate and master the inevitable limitations we encounter in our physical reality.

The Moon conjuncts Saturn the day after Christmas.

When the Moon is next to Saturn, these usually aren't the most jovial days. Saturn tends to have a practical and even dreary outlook. We had the same aspect the day after Thanksgiving.

It can be experienced as the let-down or the loneliness after the holiday festivities when we're often with those we love. Or, it can be experienced as a felt sense of relief to have gotten through them!

Either way, don't take your mood to seriously on Monday. It will likely pass come Tuesday.

As I've alluded in previous emails, 2023 is jam-packed with juicy astrology. We're on the precipice of change to be sure.

>> Have you felt a need to purge or reorganize your space under the Mars Rx energies? Please write me back and let me know if that's how it's playing out for you!

Until next week, cheers to understanding yourself better!

P.S. Wondering what 2023 has in store for you?
