Relationships 24-7
I know you're going to be thrilled to hear that Mercury ends his retrograde motion this Sunday at 2.07am PT in the sign of Virgo where he reigns supreme!
But before you sound the celebratory horn, be reminded that Mercury has a shadow period. More on that below in the AstroLogical forecast.
Today, I want to talk about the most defining element of the Libra archetype. Libra is the sign that signifies the Spiritual Keynote of RELATIONSHIP.
My last email talked a lot about relationships because the prevailing energies are really highlighting interpersonal dynamics more than usual. That's saying a lot given our cultural obsession with love!
A former spiritual teacher of mine called it the "Walt Disney Syndrome." (Those three words sum it up quite nicely, wouldn't you agree?)
In the years that I've been consulting, interpersonal dynamics are always the most pressing concern for clients. (For me too!) But of course, not all relationships are romantic.
Whether you're concerned about your connection with your son, your mother, a colleague or your lover, you likely have matters of the heart on the brain.
Because Libra is uber concerned with harmony and balance (more on that next week), she will do damn near anything to make others happy — from eating dinner at a restaurant she can't stand to solidifying a righteously codependent dynamic. There is no other sign more committed to interpersonal relationship than Libra. So as you move through Libra Season, you can learn a lot about your own needs and behaviors in this realm — for better or worse.
Let's contemplate the 24-7 emphasis on relationship:
Where and why do you continue to ignore your own needs to maintain the peace of your relationships? Have you ever made an inventory of your top hits? Now's a great time to get real clear on your ego's people pleasing and codependency skill.
Since intimacy is a non-negotiable need (read: necessary for survival), I can promise you, there's not just one but many ways in which you self-sacrifice for the sake of a relationship — whether it's for a friend, family or lover.
How much of the Walt Disney Syndrome has infiltrated your thoughts and expectations about relationships?
Where do you continue to fantasize or expect some amount of Prince Charming from your love interest? Does this help or hinder those connections?
What happens when you experience difficulty or a threat to the harmony of one of your relationships?
What patterns of thought and behavior kick in? Are you able to bring awareness to these defense mechanisms (unconscious drivers) or do you project it back onto the other?
There is so much beauty and grace, fulfillment and romance in relationship, too. We've all experienced the amazing gift of love in one form or another.
It's no wonder we're addicted even to the idea of having it!
This Week's AstroLogical Forecast:
Venus, Libra's ruler, is the planet of love, romance, beauty and money. She moves into the sign of ... you guessed it, LIBRA, just after midnight on Thursday morning.
Hence my earlier comment that there are a lot of energies highlighting love and relationship right now. There really are.
Ugh, Saturn and Uranus are in a tense square to one another, not for the first time. We've basically been under this energy for the whole of 2021 and 2022!
The emphasis is on integrating the new with the old; knowing when to discard the old for the new; getting down with the new energies and letting go of the past or what no longer serves our highest good — as individuals, in our immediate society and globally.
One of my readers, Mark, asked, "How long does it take to recover from Mercury retrograde?" What an excellent question Mark!
Mercury has what we call a "shadow period." Basically, that's when he travels back through the part of the zodiac he retrograded through.
The shadow will last through October 16, so we'll be feeling the Mercury Rx energies until then (about two weeks after he goes direct again).
During these two weeks you may continue to experience some of the wonkiness the Cosmic Trickster loves to generously impart. Or, you may be dealing with the after effects of those events.
>> Have a great Mercury Rx story? Please write me back and share it!
Next week, you'll learn about the Full Moon in Aries that's coming up, as well as another BIG celestial event that happens only once every two years.
Until then, cheers to understanding yourself better!
P.S. Got relationships on the brain? Why not invest in understanding your loved one better?
